What is ISO 9000?

ISO 9000, more specifically the ISO 9001:2015 standard, provides guidelines and criteria for a quality management system. This standard is applicable for any organization that wants to make sure their products and services meet their customers' requirements and to continuously improve quality.

How do I get my company certified in ISO 9000?

In a nutshell, the process for becoming certified in ISO 9001:2015 is as follows:

  1. Establish and maintain your quality management system in accordance with the standard.
  2. Choose an ISO registrar based on your organization's needs.
  3. Conduct preparation activities for your ISO audit.
  4. Get an ISO audit from a Lead Auditor from your ISO registrar.
  5. Prepare for and get regular surveillance audits after you have become certified.

Why do I need an ISO internal audit?

If your organization is working to become certified in ISO 9000, an internal audit or "pre-audit" of your quality management system will help identify any gaps or weaknesses in meeting the ISO 9001:2015 standard and give you the opportunity to address them before the ISO audit. Getting an internal audit from a third party helps ensure objectivity and is particularly helpful for smaller organizations.
